antiques and design services

Christine Whitaker Wiggins, founder, The Green Paisley
After 8 years designing for the fashion industry and traveling the globe discovering great pieces, traditional textiles, and ethnographic objects, I set off on a 43 foot sailboat with my husband to delve further into the remote areas of the world. During our 7 years living aboard, I continued to design; whether it be the boat interior, or a fellow sailor's wedding dress; styling, creating, traveling: it is in my blood. After relocating back to the United States from Sydney, I decided to start "The Green Paisley" to share my love of antiques, repurposed furniture, and international design. I offer varied design services including staging, styling, photography, residential interior and garden design, retail design and visual merchandising. If you are looking for a particular piece, need assistance with a certain room or project, or would like to stage a home to rent or sell, please contact me.
Green is the color of life, from verdant mountainsides to the green blue of the deep ocean. Antiques are the ultimate choice in reusing, reducing and recycling; a small but meaningful choice to contribute to protecting the planet, so I love the dual and appropriate meaning of 'green'. The paisley design motif is ancient; generally thought to have originated in Persia somewhere between 200 and 600 AD; some believed it was a symbol of life. It traveled the world and the paisley's design appeal is appreciated in a variety of creative fields.

ANTIQUES

antiques

I have a small space at the Kilmarnock Antique Gallery on School Street in Kilmarnock, Virginia. They are open 7 days a week.
If you are looking for something special or need help pulling together a room or an entire home, please call to discuss your needs and how I can help.
As much as possible, I enjoy traveling and bringing antiques and homewares back from my jaunts. I currently have items in stock from Morocco, England, India, Indonesia, China, and Eastern Europe.
styling
I am inspired by old objects and new ideas. The stories of a treasured antique are as varied as our own lives; yet they get to live more than one life. I don't believe in being precious about antiques; the beautiful things we surround ourselves with, our environments are meant to be lived in and enjoyed. I'm not a traditionalist but am drawn to texture, form, color and the wonderful juxtapositiong that occurs when two seemingly disparate pieces from different continents and centuries may find themselves sharing the same space in a new harmonious balance.
